When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, let the hand of Al-Anon and Alateen always be there, and Let it Begin With Me.
Al-Anon and Alateen are for people who have been affected by someone else's drinking. Alateen is for our younger members, aged 7-19, only. We do, however, have 2 certified adults (called Alateen sponsors) in the room in each meeting. Please click here for a full description of how our program works.
District 19 (Rappahannock District) encompasses Fredericksburg, VA and its surrounding counties. We have a meeting available at least once every day. If you would like to find a meeting, please use the Where and When option on the menu above. We are here to help you. If you would like more information before going to a meeting please feel free to contact ANY of our District Officers and they will be glad to help.
Thursday Promises of Growth Mtg, Cancelled 11/28
Via group concious the Thursday night 7pm meeting, Promises Of Growth is cancelled on Thursday November 28, 2013 (Thanksgiving). If you are looking for a meeting, or just general fellowship, please attend the Thank-A-Thon instead. We look forward to seeing you there!
What is a Thank-a-thon/Alc-a-thon?
The Thank-a-thon/Alc-a-thon ("celebration") is a place for people in recovery to come during the holidays. The celebration is a place where you can come if spending the holidays alone or with family is not your idea of a mentally, physically, or spiritually sane holiday. There are plenty of people in recover to chat with and have fun, and there is a Christmas dinner on December 25 at 2pm. Typically there are also speakers throughout the event. It is a fun and safe space during otherwise hectic and crazy holidays.
Delegate on Donations Part 2 --- 10/16/2013
In another pep talk, our Delegate, Beverly W, mentioned a suggested division of donations after group expenses are paid. She talked about the links of service (and if you want to know more about these, contact your GR, or the DR, Diane B), and suggested supporting the most vital services first. The suggested division is as follows:
- 40% - Your District
- 40% - Your Area
- 10% - the WSO
- 10% - the service center that serves your group
Delegate on Donations --- 10/16/2013
Beverly W. who is our Delegate to the World Service Conference gave a "pep talk" about donations, which I will paraphrase below:
The dollar has been a standard 7th Tradition donation since Al-Anon's inception. However think about what you pay to the "psychiatrist" or to receive a massage, or to get your hair styled. These are all costly appreciations, and think of Al-Anon in the same way. When you reach for your 7th Tradition contribution, think about how Al-Anon has made a difference in your life. Think about it as a "gratitude" gift, and not just a humdrum weekly $1 machine. Let that decide how much you give. Here in the Rappahannock District we always ask newcomer's not to donate at their first meeting or two, and use that money to buy literature.
